Allium

Alliums have large round globe shaped flower heads that bloom staring in April to June depending on the variety. Colors are usually purple to mauve. The stems can grow up to 3ft tall for large varieties and flower heads can be up to 6in across. Plant bulbs in the fall and cover with soil to 3x the height of the bulb. They prefer full sun but will tolerate shade.


Anemone / Windflowers

Anemone flowers bloom in the early spring or summer depending on the planting time and they come in a wide variety of colors. They can grow 4in to 8in tall depending on the variety and work well in border plantings, and woodland plantings. Plant in the fall 2in deep and 4in to 6in apart. Soaking the roots overnight before planting will help them to establish more quickly. Plant in part to full shade.



Bluebells

Bluebells have small purple and blue bell shaped flowers that bloom in the late spring and will grow up to 12in tall depending on the variety. Plant bulbs 2in deep and 4in apart in late summer or early fall in part sun to shade.



Caladiums

Caladiums produce interesting heart shaped leaves in colors of green, white, red, or a combination. They can grow up to 18in tall and make a great accent planting in containers. Plant the bulbs in the spring in order to ready for summer in part sun to full shade.



Calla Lily

Calla Lilies have beautiful blooms of yellow, pink, green, or purple during the summer months. They can have interesting spotted foliage as well and grow 12in to 36in tall and up to 18in wide. They prefer part sun to full shade. Plant bulbs in spring for summer flowers.



Canna

Cannas have attractive glossy green or burgundy foliage with flowers of red, pink, orange, or yellow. They work well in containers and planting beds. Plant bulbs in full sun or part shade about 3in deep in fertile soil in the late spring or after frost free date for flowers in the summer. They will grow 3ft to 7ft tall and 2ft to 3ft wide.



Crocus

Crocus bulbs flower in the late winter to early spring and are known for being one of the first bulbs to bloom. They come in a variety of different colors purple, pink, yellow, white, or cream and grow 2in to 5in tall depending on the variety. Plant bulbs 2in deep and 2in to 4in apart in mid to late fall. Plant in full to part sun.



Daffodils

Daffodils bloom March to May in shades of yellow, white, peach, orange, pink, or a combination. They will grow 3in to 20in tall depending on the variety. Plant the bulbs in full sun mid to late fall. Planting depth varies depending on the variety. A good rule of thumb is to cover the bulb with soil 2x the height of the bulb.



Dahlias

Dahlias bloom the entire summer in a wide range of colors and textures from pink, peach, yellow, red, white, and orange. They can grow 12in tall to 5ft tall depending on the variety. Plant in a protected area in full sun. Plant the tuberous roots 4in to 6in deep with neck pointing up in mid to late spring. Smaller varieties space 12in apart and larger up to 30in apart.



Fritallaria

Fritallaria have beautiful dangling bulbs that bloom in April and May in shades of orange, pink, red, green, purple, or white. They can grow up to 39in tall depending on the variety. Plant the bulbs as soon as you purchase them in the fall as they can dry out quickly. Plant 2in to 8in deep in full sun to part shade depending on the variety. They work best when planted in clumps.



Hyacinth

Hyacinths bloom in March to May in shades of pink, purple, white, red, or yellow and are highly fragrant. The will grow 6in to 8in tall. Bulbs should be planted in early to mid fall about 6in deep and 8in apart. Plant in full sun to part shade.



Lilies Asiatic and Oriental

Lilies come in a wide variety of sizes and colors red, yellow, orange, pink, and white. They grow 2ft to 6ft tall and 1ft to 2ft wide depending on the variety. Plant in full sun to part shade in the fall or early spring. Plant the bulbs 4in to 9in deep and 9in to 15in apart.



Tulips

Tulips bloom March to May in colors every shade of the rainbow. They can grow 6in to 24in tall depending on the variety. Plant bulbs in full sun about 6in deep for larger varieties and 4in deep for smaller varieties. Space them 4in to 8in apart. Plant in late fall.
