My name is Melissa Peterson and I’m a plant addict (much like yourself I’d assume). You’ll often find me wondering through the garden center or my yard and marveling at the pretty petals of a bright colored flower or the unique foliage of a tropical plant. I lust after the newest plant varieties and pine to take home almost everything that comes across my path in the garden center. Luckily my budget (and my husband) keep my plant addictions somewhat under control.
From a young age I was constantly surrounded by people who loved plants. My dad and step-mom are the landscaping gurus (Ted and Jean Lare), my mom a nature lover who loved her garden and flowers, and both of my grandma’s loved wildflowers. At each and every turn in life there was someone there taking me on a walk through the woods or the vegetable garden and pointing out all the different kinds of flowers, plants and trees.
Like many kids, I took for granted the knowledge and passion that was passed on to me by those people around me who loved plants. It wasn’t until I owned my own home and we opened the garden center that I truly caught “the gardening bug.” My once small collection of a few houseplants and outdoor annuals has grown quickly into quite a collection. My collection now consists of an entirely landscaped yard, dozens of pots of annuals, plots in the community garden and our house is full of bonsai, orchids and tropical plants.
I am so fortunate to be a part of business my dad started and to be surrounded by other individuals who have profound knowledge on plants and the same passion for plants and nature that my family and I have. I consider myself lucky to get to share a bit of everyday beauty and plant knowledge through the this blog. Thanks for stopping by, Happy Planting!
